Recycle waste heat and generate power on-site.
What is CHP?
CHP, also known as cogeneration, describes a suite of technologies that can use a variety of fuels
to generate both electricity and usable thermal energy (heat).
This proven technology has been utilized for more than 30 years, often by commercial and
industrial facilities with demand for both electricity and heat.
Benefits of CHP
CHP systems offer your facility an innovative way to:
- Save energy
- Lower costs
- Help the environment
CHP systems help facilities turn typically wasted heat into useful electricity
and thermal energy, which can be used for:
- Space heating
- Cooling
- Domestic hot water heating
- Dehumidification
- Process heating
Available Rebates and Incentives
- Rebates: Combined Heat and Power (CHP) rebates depend on the amount of natural gas savings
each system produces. Gas savings are calculated using the methodology outlined in the
Illinois Technical Reference Manual (TRM).
Customer sector |
Rebate |
Private sector |
$1/therm ($10/MMBtu) up to $500,000* |
Public sector |
$2.5/therm ($25/MMBtu) up to $500,000* |
*Rebates may not exceed 50% of the total project cost
- Engineering study incentives: We provide up to $15,000 to offset the cost of on-site
engineering support to perform a feasibility study, investment-grade audit or process evaluation.
Refer to the engineering study application for instructions on how to apply.
All applications must receive preapproval before the study begins.

What are other ways my business can save energy and money?
Commercial and industrial customers can earn prescriptive rebates when they install qualifying steam traps;
pipe, valve and fitting insulation; boiler reset controls; demand-controlled ventilation; commercial kitchen
equipment; and other energy-saving items. Get started by contacting us online, calling 855-849-8928 or visiting:
If you are interested in energy efficiency upgrades not covered by the prescriptive rebate offerings,
custom rebates are available with the help of our team of energy advisors and engineers. Contact us today to learn more!
